A useful first setup is one you can identify, reproduce and stop when something is unclear. Begin with a demo account and establish which software will execute the strategy. Installing a trading terminal, viewing an account on a phone and running a strategy inside YO4X are different workflows.
The steps below separate native MetaTrader 5 from YO4X Desktop. They verify installation and behaviour; they are not a test of future profitability. Account access and available instruments depend on your broker.
Choose the correct execution path
Use the native MT5 desktop path when you want to install an Expert Advisor intended for that terminal and follow its publisher’s instructions. MetaTrader documents EA attachment and trading permissions in its algorithmic trading guide. Seeing positions on a phone is not evidence that the desktop EA is running there.
Use the YO4X path when you want an available strategy in the YO4X catalogue or a source workflow that has passed its compatibility analysis. YO4X does not execute arbitrary EX5 files and does not require a separately installed MetaTrader terminal for its supported desktop connection.
Connect the intended MT5 demo account
For native MT5, obtain the desktop installer through your chosen broker’s verified website or MetaTrader’s official channels. Use the broker’s demo-account process and record the exact server name. MetaTrader’s account-opening documentation describes choosing a broker and creating a practice account without a real-money deposit.
When connecting an existing account, match the login, password type and server. Investor access is read-only, whereas the trading password grants trading permissions. An account that connects but cannot place orders may therefore have the wrong access level. See MetaTrader’s account authorisation guide. Keep passwords out of screenshots and support messages.
Check the instrument before a demo order
Confirm the actual broker symbol rather than assuming that a familiar label has identical specifications everywhere. Record the minimum volume, volume step, contract size, trading sessions and any required distance for protective orders. A strategy referring to XAUUSD may need a different symbol identifier on your broker.
For a native EA, use a trusted file and the publisher’s documented settings. Check both the platform’s algorithmic-trading permission and the EA’s individual permission. Do not enable unrelated DLL or external-request permissions merely to dismiss an error. If a dependency is unclear, resolve it with the publisher before running it.
Set up YO4X on Windows
- Check the requirements. YO4X targets 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. Start at the official download page; if the installer is not listed, request it through the linked support channel.
- Install and sign in. Follow the official installer, then use the account flow inside the app. Setup provides the required desktop runtime and WebView2 when needed.
- Choose a supported demo account. Verify the account and broker server. In local mode, the trading password stays in a Windows-protected vault on your PC.
- Review the available strategy. Use the inputs exposed in YO4X. A setting in an external EA manual is not automatically implemented in the app.
- Observe a controlled demo run. Check strategy status, order identifiers and journal messages. Compare any orders with the broker record.
Keep the PC awake, the application open and the connection active during local operation. Current desktop execution is demo-gated; cloud execution and local historical-test execution remain planned features.
Troubleshoot the first session
- No connection: recheck the selected server, account type and network before changing strategy inputs.
- Connected but no orders: inspect permissions, market hours and journal messages. A selective strategy may simply have no qualifying setup.
- Rejected order: capture its timestamp and error text, then compare volume and stop settings with broker specifications.
- Unexpected activity: use the relevant strategy controls, inspect existing positions and pending instructions, and verify whether another deployment is operating on the account.
Change one setting at a time and record what changed. Stopping software does not necessarily close broker-held orders. If the state is unclear, check the broker account directly and request help. Send YO4X support a redacted error report through the official contact page; native terminal or EA issues belong with the broker or original publisher.
